Weibchen und Männchen?
 

I was cleaning one of my tanks today and found these two in the same clay pipe with the smaller one being closer to the entrance to the cave.

What do you think, is it a male and female? Both are sold as L260 but the bigger one I think is Hypancistrus sp "Monte Dourante".

Hope you dont mind I wrote in english, mein deutch bist nicht so gut.

Yes, they're male and female.

I think there are more than just one species of L 260, at least two. The female one of your fish is the darker type of L 260 (not Monte Dourado), the male is the one with more contrast in its coloration. The darker type will grow up to 14 cm (or more?), they other at most 11-12 cm.

well I think, the one above is a female with spawn.
And the other one is a male, because of his brawny head.

I guess you´ve got two species. I would seperate them, concerning hybrids.

I dont know If I will get any spawn from them now. They are now moved to a cichlid malawi tank so they'll get problems spawning anyway.

Tobi, I have set up a 1+2 P.maccus tank(56l) and Im going to give it a shot again. Unfortunately my RO-system is kaputt, but I think they will breed in time, at least I hope so. How is your P. Maccus and L-134 breeding going on? Would be cool to hear if you have any news!
