Sexing Hypancistrus Inspector can be very tricky. I got two adult fish from Pier Aquatics some years ago, hand picked by Neil and Daniel himself I believe
I wanted males badly for my group of females.
This year one of those "males" spawned and gave a great bunch of eggs

So they can proof to be pretty difficult to sex when not conditioned
